The Inspiration...

The idea for Purscents was born from a personal journey. My husband kept getting headaches from the synthetic fragrances in the candles I loved. At the same time, I had a cupboard full of beautiful empty jars I could not bring myself to throw away. It all felt wasteful.

One afternoon, sitting in a garden café surrounded by natural calming scents, I felt inspired to create something better. Candles that are kind to people and designed to reduce waste.

Purscents is for those who want their homes to feel calm, smell beautiful, and reflect more conscious choices.

Each candle is thoughtfully crafted using plant based ingredients. Guided by a desire to reduce waste, every detail from wax to wick to packaging is considered with care.

Growing up in Ghana, I witnessed first hand the effects of environmental challenges such as deforestation and plastic pollution. Those early experiences shaped my commitment to low waste design, ethical values, and creating positive change through Purscents.

The Journey so far

  • Maame’s love of candles, her husband’s sensitivity to synthetic fragrance, and a cupboard of empty jars, inspired by a garden café, sparked the idea for Purscents

    2020 - 2021

  • We launched our first range of readymade candles, reed diffusers and bath salts.

    Autumn 2022

  • We introduced our candle refill pouches, making it easier for customers to reuse their jars, return to favourite scents, and reduce waste.

    Spring 2023

  • We won our first award for sustainability and innovation, and proudly received Ethical Accreditation from The Good Shopping Guide.

    2nd half of 2023

  • We calculated our carbon footprint for the first time, marking an important step in our sustainability journey.

Our Ingredients

Our ingredients are responsibly sourced, vegan friendly, and cruelty free. We never use synthetic fragrances, phthalates, dyes, lead, petroleum, paraffin, or hidden ingredients. Our components are recycled, recyclable, reusable, compostable, or biodegradable wherever possible, and reducing waste is central to every decision we make

WAX

100% plant-based blend of rapeseed and coconut wax. Unlike soy, rapeseed grows in the UK and in Europe and so it has a low carbon footprint and coconut is harvested by hand and doesn’t require pesticides or fertilizer. Our wax is biodegradable, and offers a clean, long-lasting burn.

Our rapeseed wax is sourced from Europe, whilst most of the coconut used in our waxes comes from smallholder farmers in the Philippines or Indonesia. There is no forest removal in order to plant new coconut trees and all farming contacts are closely monitored by our suppliers in that regard.

DIFFUSER BASE

100% vegetable glycerin derived from renewable sources.  It is vegan, cruelty free, biodegradable and not harmful to human, animals, or the environment.

SCENTS

We only use 100% essential oils and plant extracts in our products because its not just about making your home ‘smell nice’. Our scents are designed to have therapeutic effects and, hopefully, enhance your wellbeing too.

JARS & BOTTLES

Currently 96% plastic free, our high quality food safe glass jars and bottles are easy to repurpose as the perfect storage in the home.Learn more.

WICK & REEDS

Crafted from cotton, our wicks are coated with vegetable wax, are free from bleach, lead or any other artificial substances.  Additionally our reeds are 100% rattan wooden sticks.

PACKAGING

We package all orders in a cardboard box with kraft paper void fill and sealed with paper tape.  We do our best to ensure all our components are either recycled, fully recyclable, reusable, compostable or biodegradable.
